AUTHOR GUIDELINES FOR THE ORGANIZATION DEVELOPMENT JOURNAL
THE ORGANIZATION DEVELOPMENT JOURNAL publishes articles from the entire spectrum of Organization Development. Of principal interest are those articles that contribute new knowledge or innovative perspectives. Authors should assume that the typical reader is a highly educated / experienced practitioner. We consider the journal to be truly international in scope, and therefore strongly encourage manuscripts from all over the world. While we do require that all submissions be written in English, for those for whom English is not a native language we have developed a special review process. If the reviewers believe the paper's content is acceptable, with the author's permission, we will assist the author in preparing the manuscript for publication. The Editorial Review Board particularly encourages internal practioners to share their experiences and add to this body of application and theory development.
  1. Except as noted in the following guidelines, manuscripts should conform to the style and general directions given in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Assocation Third Edition.
  2. Please send an original paper in Microsoft Word® or a Word-compatible format by email to Dr. Diane Clarke-Kudless at For questions, you can reach her at (908) 832-9189.
  3. We prefer manuscripts that are no longer than 20 double-spaced pages of 12 points Times New Roman font and including all illustration and short bibliographies formatted for 8 1/2" x 11" (22 x 28 cm.) paper. Margins should be no smaller than 1" (3cm) on top, bottom and sides.
  4. The article should include a title page containing the title of the article and the author(s) name(s) and full mailing address. This page will be removed for blind review.
  5. The article should also include an abstract - approximately 75 words.
  6. Articles which have been presented at a scientific conference are welcome for submission, even if they were published in a non-copy-protected Proceedings. However, manuscripts which are under consideration for other journals are not permitted. We encourage internal OD practicioners to provide experience-based articles with adequate reference to relevant theories and citation publications.
  7. Please include all tables, figures and illustrations within the body of the paper. All tables, models, diagrams, figures MUST BE IN BLACK AND WHITE for publication readibility. Make lines bold to be clear and text should be at least 8 point.
  8. Quotations in the body of the article should follow the format shown in these examples below. Direct quotes must be accurate.

Quotation 1: He stated, "The rain in Spain..." (Smith, 1982, p.276)
Quotation 2: Smith (1982, p.276) states "The rain in Spain..."
            Quotation 3: Smith (1982) found:

When the quotation contains 40 or more words, the entire quotation should be indented five spaces on each side and should cite the page number from which the quote was taken (p.69)
  9. We require that all papers be submitted by email. For large articles, authors may be required to provide the file on diskette. All authors are required to submit all figures, tables and other artwork in "camera-ready" condition, plus a photograph of the author(s).
  10. All bibliographies (author, co-authors) should be no longer than 45 words each. Each biography may include name, photograph, affiliation, business and/or academic experience in OD, and professional focus in OD. If you wish to include an email address for publication correspondence, you may do so. Please do not include phone numbers, as they will not be published.
  11. Contact Information: Correct contact information is critical to editors who may need to clarify or confirm information as well as to provide authors a complimentary copy of their published work. Provide author/co-author names, organization, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
